Between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. today, Raleigh Police Department officers responded to approximately 100 wreck calls, which is approximately twice the city’s 24-hour average. In addition, officers answered about 40 calls to assist motorists – many of which concerned vehicles that had become disabled or stuck.
The department had additional personnel assigned to handle traffic-related calls throughout the day to shorten wreck response times and to clear collisions as rapidly as possible.
With refreezing possible as the sun sets and the temperature drops, motorists are advised not to drive tonight or early tomorrow morning unless it is absolutely necessary. Those who must travel are urged to do so with caution.
