Yesterday’s arrest of a Raleigh man in connection with a series of armed robberies came after he was tentatively identified through a tip to Raleigh CrimeStoppers that resulted from news media coverage of the cases.
Raleigh Police Department detectives charged Donovan Sylvester Chaplain, (DOB 4/20/89), with:
· 5 counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon;
· 1 count of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon;
· 6 counts of conspiracy to commit armed robbery; and
· 5 counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon;
The charges against Chaplain relate to a number of cases in the message string below, including:
· The Oct. 26 robbery of the Papa John’s at 5260 Capital Blvd.;
· The Oct 31 robbery of the Peace Street Market at 804 W. Peace St.;
· The Nov. 6 attempted robbery of the Exxon at 4301 New Bern Ave.;
· The Nov 6 robbery of the Circle K at 2400 Spring Forest Rd.;
· The Nov. 6 robbery of the Domino’s Pizza at 4339 Falls of Neuse Rd.; and
· The Nov. 12 robbery of the Circle K at 3600 Lake Boone Tr.;
Chaplain was in custody at the Wake County Jail on unrelated charges when he was served with arrest warrants for the charges.
