Shortly before 11 a.m. today, a report was received concerning a male subject, who had threatened to commit suicide and who could pose a threat to others.
Raleigh Police Department personnel developed information that the subject was likely located at his residence in the 9300 block Bothwell Street, and additional RPD personnel responded to that area.
Residences in close proximity to the subject’s address were evacuated.
Shortly before 7:30 p.m., a tactical team attempted to enter the apartment. At that point, shots were fired, and one RPD officer was struck by gunfire. The officer was transported to WakeMed by EMS with what are believed to be nonlife-threatening injuries. The officer’s family has been notified.
Efforts to ensure the safety of all involved remain on-going at this time. Additional information will be released when it is appropriate to do so.
