Yesterday, shortly before 8 a.m,. a resident in the 8800 block of Valentine Court was confronted by two suspects, at least one of whom was armed with a handgun. The victim was able to flee before the suspects were able to rob him.
The two suspects fled on foot, and one of them was soon taken into custody. Most of the RPD's presence in the area related to the search for the second suspect.
A short time after the attempted robbery, a vehicle was stolen from the 9000 block of Reedham Oaks Court, and it's thought that the second suspect may have been responsible for that vehicle theft.
The two suspects arrested in connection with the attempted robbery on Valentine Court are James Walter Pauling (DOB 12/19/70) and Kenneth Shea Gibson (DOB 8/8/84). Gibson is also under arrest for charges related to the theft of a 2006 Toyota Highlander on Reedham Oaks Court.
Pauling was taken into custody a short time after the attempted robbery when a caller reported seeing a subject who was apparently trying to hide in a nearby wooded area just north of Strickland Road. Officers responded and detained Pauling.
Gibson was taken into custody a short time later after he abandoned the stolen vehicle off Newton Road. Area residents reported a suspicious person who turned out to be Gibson.
Pauling and Gibson, both of Raleigh, were charged with armed robbery and with conspiracy to commit armed robbery. In addition, Gibson was charged with breaking and entering and with larceny of a motor vehicle.
