RPD Makes Public Aware of Pellet Gun Design

This pellet gun has a safety mechanism in close proximity to the trigger.
RPD took the opportunity to make the public aware of a design of a pellet gun involved in an accidental discharge that resulted in the death of an 8-year-old child.

At a press conference today, Raleigh police detective, Lt. Andy Murr, displayed a photo of a pellet gun, showing that the safety switch was in close proximity to the trigger. Based upon what has been learned, this design is not unique to one firearms manufacturer.

"Take extra care with this type of weapon or with this design," he said. "We want to prevent tragedies like this happening."

Murr added that the public, and especially young people, should be careful around any firearm, including BB guns, pellet guns and Airsoft guns.

Murr also stressed that if anyone has firearms of any type that they no longer wish to keep in their homes, arrangements can be made to turn them in to police for destruction by calling their local law enforcement agency.
