Request for Assistance-Shooting Incident

The Raleigh Police Department is requesting public assistance as it seeks to identify and arrest the suspects responsible for an attempted burglary and assault incident.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. Dec. 29, a resident in the 3000 block Hayling Drive was awakened by what he described as a banging noise. When the owner investigated, he discovered three suspects attempting to enter his residence.

When the resident opened an exterior door, two of the suspects ran to a vehicle that was parked nearby. The owner gave chase to the third suspect who was running in another direction. As the vehicle began to move, a suspect inside it fired a gunshot at the resident, who discontinued his pursuit and returned to his residence. The resident was not struck by the gunfire and neither was anyone in another nearby occupied residence the was struck by the bullet the suspect fired.

The vehicle being used by the suspects was described as an older model, burgundy Ford Windstar van with tinted windows. A fourth suspect may have been in the van.

The three suspects who were seen by the resident were described as black males. The only detailed description available is that of the suspect the resident pursued. That suspect is described as being “chubby” and in his early 20s. He was wearing dark-colored clothing and a white and red hat.

Anyone who believes they might have information that would assist detectives investigating the case is asked to call Raleigh CrimeStoppers at (919) 834-HELP. CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for anonymous tips that help solve cases.
