At approximately
5:45 a.m. Jan. 21, Raleigh Police Department officers responded to a
check-in-with-EMS call at 216-B East Lenoir Street.
The call
involved an unresponsive 5-month-old male, Christopher Scott Childers Jr., The
child was transported to WakeMed where he remained hospitalized until
yesterday, when he died as a result of his injuries. The boy was 6-months-old
at the time of his death.
Detectives were
called to the scene on Jan. 21 and conducted a thorough investigation. Later
that day, the boy’s father, Christopher Scott Childers (DOB 3/22/83), was
arrested and charged with felony child abuse. A warrant charging Childers with
murder was obtained today and has been served.
