Two suspects have been arrested and transported to the Wake County Jail in connection with a shooting incident that occurred yesterday around 4 p.m. at the 4200 block of Middle Oaks Drive. The victim, Christopher M. Wheeler, 34, was transported to WakeMed with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.
Rutler Warren Strum, Jr., 30, and Brandon Ross Joyner, 20, have each been charged with two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and single counts of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. The charges of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury stem from injuries sustained by a second victim, Barbara Thompson Carroll, 31, who was struck by a baseball bat during the incident. Strum was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Strum and Joyner were taken into custody without further incident by members of the RPD’s Fugitive Unit at Joyner’s residence near Roxboro. Assistance was received from the Person County Sheriff’s Department.
The case investigation was conducted by the Raleigh Police Department’s Aggravated Assault Unit.
