Animals Removed from Residence Results in Animal Cruelty Charges

On August 4, shortly before 9 a.m., members of the Raleigh Police Department’s Animal Control Unit responded to a humane call 6608 Professor Street.

As a result of follow-up investigation, 70 animals were taken from the residence. Fifty-one dogs were surrendered, 16 dogs and three cats were collected for protective custody.

Carolyn Sue Burnham, 46, and Barbara Von Woodworth, 57, were each charged with 10 counts of animal cruelty. The suspects have been transported to the Wake County Jail. Each count of the charges, which are felonies, corresponds to a dog that had to be euthanized after being removed from the residence. Both suspects lived at the Professor Street location.

The investigation of the case is continuing.
