Arrests Made in Copper Theft

At approximately 5:30 a.m. on July 29, a Raleigh Police Department officer responded to a call concerning the theft of 42 spools of copper wire valued at more than $14,000 from a construction site at 300 S. Salisbury Street.

The follow-up investigation of the case has resulted in the arrest of two suspects, Ernest Coy Daw, 27, and Weston McKinley Auston Taylor, 29.

Both suspects were taken into custody yesterday and have been transported to the Wake County Jail. Each of them is charged with three felonies in connection with the case: breaking and entering; larceny; and possession of stolen property.

At this time, more than half of the stolen wire has been recovered.
