RPD Arrests Bank Robbery Suspect

Raleigh Police Department detectives have obtained an arrest warrant charging Steven Michael Abbott, 22, with robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with Thursday morning’s bank robbery.

In addition, a second arrest warrant was obtained charging Abbott with robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with a robbery that occurred shortly before 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Rite Aid store at 3432 Edwards Mill Road. During that incident, the suspect announced the robbery and displayed a weapon but fled the store before receiving cash.

Abbott was detained without further incident at 4500-24 Manor Village Way about noon today by members of the Raleigh Police Department’s Selective Enforcement Unit. An RPD officer, who was circulating in that area as part of the department’s response to this morning’s robbery, spotted a vehicle in the apartment complex’s parking lot that matched the description of the white SUV used in the two crimes. Follow-up investigation linked the vehicle to the apartment where Abbott was located.
